Whoring Withdrawal
Ok, this post is just for Titan, and contains much technobable which he really loves.
One of my customer's Exchange 2000 E-mail servers crased today because the private message store had exceeded the 16GB data limit. We tried to repair this with the registry edit on Microsof TechNet KB 813051, but it did not work.
Next we called Microsoft. First we verified that last night's backup to tape was good, then we detached the database from within Exchange System Manager. From there we verified the integrity of the data. Then we performed a flat file backup of both the public and private stores to a different server at the same site.
Following this we are defragementing both the public and private databases. This should take 3-6 hours. Once this is finished we will reattach the databases in the Exchange System Manager and see how they are working now. If they work, we will have users delete unnecessary e-mails and attachments from their mailboxes. If it does not work we will have to do an emergency in-place upgrade to Exchange Server 200 Enterprise Edition to surpass the 16GB Message Store Limit.
Either way, I'm completely screwed for gaming tonight, don't have an XBOX at the office.
Hope that wasn't too much techno mumbo jumbo for you Titan. :)
By the way - I charged the Microsoft Support Phone Call ($245) to Lady Death's American Express Card, want the number?
